INCA TRAIL 4 DAY TREK TO MACHUPICCHU- TREK ITINERARY.

DISTANCE: 45km – 29mi
DURATION: 4 days
WHEN TO GO: Can be done year round.
ALTITUDE: 2700m to (4200m second day)
DIFFICULTY: Moderate
WHEN TO BOOK:  AS FAR IN ADVANCE AS POSSIBLE, AS SOON AS YOU KNOW THE DATES OF YOUR INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS. SINCE THE NUMBER OF THE TREK PERMITS IS LIMITED TO 500 PEOPLE PER DAY (200 TOURIST PLUS 300 TREKKING STAFF). THE TREK PERMITS ARE ISSUED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS UP UNTIL ALL THE PERMITS HAVE BEEN SOLD OUT.

DAY 1. - Km 82 to Wayllabamba; 6 hours; 12 Km; 8 mi; Walking in the Park.
You will be collected early from your hotel in our private bus and transferred to km 82 (starting point of the Inca trail). We will stop briefly on the way for breakfast. On arrival at km 82, (2600m / 8972ft), we will show our passports at the control point. We will then cross the Urubamba river & walk to the left of this for about 2 hrs. On the way we will make many stops to see the beautiful view of Waqay Willque (snow mountain), the incomparable flora from this valley & the local people selling chicha (Corn Inca drink). Later we will stop at the first archaeological site Patallaqta, and then have lunch & a brief siesta! After this we will walk for 2 more hrs to Wayllabamba, which is the camp site for the first night (3000m / 9842ft).

 

 

 

 

DAY 2.- From Wayllabamba to DEAD WOMAN PASS & Pacaymayu ; 7 hours ; 10km ; 7 mi ; Challenging day.
It is the second day and the hardest day on the Inca trail, climbing to 4200 ma.s.l. (13779 feet). On this day we climb up 1200m (3936 feet) and will gain a real sense of achievement on reaching the top! This day we are going to get up early to walk in the fresh morning for half way and we are going to feel different microclimate. At the first 3 hours we are going to walk in the lush forest, full of native polylepis trees and flowers until Llulluchapampa 3800m.a.s.l. Then we will trek 2 more hours to get the top and see the Puna level snow mountains around the trail and a variety of birds (Hummingbirds, Rufous collared sparrow, Flowerpiercer, Mountain caracara Falcons). During this part of the trail hikers are exposed to the Andean elements, first scorching sun & then, closer to the pass, freezing winds.

After the pass we will trek 2 more hours on down hill to Pacaymayu (hidden river) to the second night camp site at 3500 m.a.s.l (11646 ft).

 

 

DAY 3. - From Pacaymayu to Wiñaywayna (forever young); 8 hours; 15Km; 9 mi; Unforgettable.
From Pacaymayu it takes 1 hour to get Runturaqay (Inca Stronghold). After 45 minutes we will reach the second highest pass in the Inca trail (4000m.a.s.l.). After going over the pass, we will descend towards Yanacocha (Black lagoon) to finally arrive at Sayaqmarca (inaccessible town). From here we start the original flat stones trail to Machupicchu, the Inca tunnels and the secret trails which the Inkas used to get lost from their enemies. This part of the trail is unforgettable; the pavement road leads into wilderness where we will be able to see wide variety of wild orchids combined with stunning sceneries and a variety of birds (Tanagers, swallow, hummingbirds, finch, and wrens). The trails then ascend up to the third pass Phuyupatamarca and the cloud forest.

 

 

 

DAY 4.- From Wiñaywayna to Sun Gate & Machupicchu (Lost City of the Incas); 2:30 hours ; 06Km ; 3.72mi ; Unique.

Early Wake up 4:00 am, Breakfast 4:30, early walk to Machupicchu to get on time to enjoy the Sun rise and Picture the City in its most Wonderful presentation from the Sun gate, for later walk to the Lugged and storage our Back Packs after pay 5 Peruvian soles, after this we going to give you a little time to buy Water and start our tour. Your guide is going to help you to discover the mysteries surrounding Machupicchu. Your guide will take you on a 2 hour tour around this important Inca site and you will have an additional 4 hours free time to climb up to Huayna Picchu & explore the temple of the moon before heading down to Aguas calientes to board your train back to Cusco.
